When Nikon and Canon go toe to toe the world takes notice and everybody benefits. I've started saving up my nickels for a D700 for Christmas. Nikon rocks!
near time that Nikon followed the Canon lead to Fx format. I for one was seriously considering switching to Canon until Nikon released the D3 series, now there is an affordable alternative in the D700 which other than 'ruggedness' and battery capacity I can see very little difference between D3 and D700. At last I get full value for my short focal length lenses.
Oh - I meant to followup. I did finally get the D700 and it rocks! Beautiful low noise capabilty and I love the extra crop room afforded by the full size sensor.
